Veneers Cosmetic Dentistry
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from tooth-colored materials (such as porcelain) designed to cover the front side of your teeth. Veneers are individually made for each patient, it is impossible to tell the difference between a veneers and natural teeth, veneers resist coffee and tea stains, because they are made of high-tech materials. Treat veneers just like natural teeth, with routine brushing and flossing.
Before your dentist places your new veneer, he or she may need to conservatively prepare your tooth to achieve the desired result.
Getting a veneer usually requires two appointments. During the first appiontment the dentist will examine your teeth to make sure that veneers are appropriate for you. Then the dentist will take X-rays and perhaps make impressions of your mouth and teeth. The impression is sent to a dental laboratory, which will construct veneers. It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for the dentist to receive the veneers back from the laboratory.
On the second appointment to prepare teeth for veneers, the dentist may have to remove 1/2 millimetre or more of enamel, the dentist will decide whether to numb that area. Before veneers are cemented, the color have to be adjusted with the shade of cement, veneers will be adjusted to achieve the proper fit. A special cement is applied to the veneers and veneers are bonded to the teeth. The the dentist will apply a special light which activates chemicals in the cement, causing the cement harden very quickly. Last steps are removing any excess cement and evaluating the bite and if necessary making any adjustments.
